Hope Healing and Harmony

Using the prophetess Anna as an example of undying hope in the God who had promised that Messiah would come, this teaching takes hope to a new level for all who wait for long-awaited dreams to be fulfilled. Though a woman who knew the cultural oppression of shame—both a widow and childless—hope was the antidote that kept her from bitterness and shame. Hope is always what happens when Jesus comes along. He comes to heal our broken hearts and set them dancing again in the eternal harmony of the triune God—now our Father.
This is an ideal two or three day retreat topic

Woman You are Free
This is Alice at her best. From a woman’s role in the church, to her relationship with her husband, to the much maligned and misrepresented stance of the single woman, this presentation leaves no doubt about the freedom and equality that God bought and paid for all women through Jesus Christ. While passionate and powerful, these truths are presented in great gentleness and love. A love and respect for opposing viewpoints that she learned while collaborating on the book Reconcilable Differences with her friend Nancy Parker Brummett (click here for her web page) who champions the complementarian stance. A great choice for a caring and curious group of women willing to honestly and fearlessly share in an interactive setting. (Sometimes Nancy and Alice are both available to facilitate this teaching)

A Liberating Look at Motherhood
Mothers who attend this seminar leave with a sense of relief and freedom. Discovering that God is the perfect parent—that He is indeed everywhere while they are not. They will be assured that perfection is a myth, not only impossible, but unnecessary as mothers trust the perfection of Christ alone for their acceptance and effectiveness in raising their children. Alice shares from the Scriptures, and from her own life God’s never-failing love for both the mother and her child. This is a totally fresh and compelling examination of the awesome calling of motherhood. Suitable for all gatherings of mothers–young and old.

 Equipping the Leader
This is a highly effective teaching for all women who want to be part of a team or in leadership whether in a small or large group. It is based on the three foundation stones of source, substance and sacrifice. The source is Christ in us—all that we need for all that we are chosen and called to do. The substance of that cardinal truth is self-confidence and freedom from fear. Sacrifice is the element that marks the loving and effective leader from the aggressive and self-serving one. Leaders who are immune both to praise and criticism who play–not to the crowd—but to the Father.

Women of Wisdom
One of the characteristics of wisdom is the ability not to do desperate things–wisdom waits! We all long to be known for the kind of patience, poise, and perseverance that distinguishes a person of wisdom from one of unthinking compulsion. This deeply practical presentation looks at the Word of God to track the wanderings of wisdom from the counterfeit offering in the Garden, which seduced Eve into thinking that the forbidden fruit would make her wise, to the requested and bestowed wisdom of Solomon—whom we all regard as the epitome of that virtue. Now wisdom is in residence in every member of the new creation race. This teaching outlines the attributes, the application, and the awesome goodness of God in giving us everything that we need to live wisely. He has given us Christ. This would make a great weekend retreat topic.

Probing the Purpose of Pain
Who among us has not wondered at, been wounded with, or bewildered by life’s slings and arrows? The pain we experience may be the result of our own or others’ compulsive choices, the detritus that comes from a deluge of disappointments or the suffering of a protracted or debilitating disease. In the midst, there is a place of peace. This topic is handled with integrity and insight that puts God back on the throne of our lives to glimpse the “big picture” of His eternal canvas and that all things really are for our good—which is His glory. The result of this session is a quiet, calm in the storm for we are confident of His immense love—a love that counts every tear and sleepless night. And never lets us go.

The Woman at the Well
Yet another look at the Samaritan woman! This time, with characteristic clarity, Alice reveals just how up to date this ancient account from the Gospel of John really is. A many-time divorced woman, hiding and ashamed, rejected and shunned, curious yet cautious as she approaches the subject of religion with a strange, yet compelling Jewish man. She may even have had compulsive issues (which came into good use as demonstrated by the alacrity with which she took off and spread the good news to her village). Jesus knew the precise moment at which to meet her. He spoke the truth with tenderness, he banished her rejection with His acceptance, and took her out of hiding and shame to proclaim the Good News. Her need was so abundantly satisfied with God’s supply and is no less true for every woman today. This teaching is life-changing.
